AWL Robotic Welding Operator

We're recruiting for an experienced AWL Robotic Welding Operator to join a well-established engineering and manufacturing business in Oldham.
This is a specialist position suited to someone with experience operating automated or robotic welding equipment. You'll be responsible for programming, setting up and running an AWL robotic welding system, ensuring products are manufactured accurately, efficiently and to the highest quality standards.
This role goes beyond traditional welding. You'll need a solid understanding of automated manufacturing processes, welding techniques, machine programming and quality inspection within a precision engineering environment.
Robotic Welding & Machine Operation
Set up, programme and operate an AWL robotic welding system.
Configure welding parameters in accordance with engineering drawings and production requirements.
Monitor automated welding processes to ensure optimum performance and consistent weld quality.
Make adjustments to machine settings to maximise efficiency and minimise defects.
Carry out routine machine checks and identify any operational issues.
Perform basic fault finding and resolve minor machine problems where possible.
Safely load and unload components into the robotic welding cell.
Produce work to tight tolerances while maintaining dimensional accuracy.
The Ideal Candidate :
Valid, externally accredited VNA licence (RTITB, ITSSAR, AITT or equivalent).
Previous experience operating a VNA truck within a warehouse environment.
Good attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Reliable, punctual and safety-conscious.
Experience using RF scanners or warehouse management systems would be advantageous but is not essential.
Welding & Manufacturing
Inspect welds and identify defects such as porosity, lack of fusion, undercut and distortion.
Carry out grinding, fettling and finishing work where required to achieve quality standards.
Assist with continuous improvement projects to increase productivity and reduce downtime.
Record production data and operate manufacturing systems using standard IT packages.
Quality Control
Conduct visual and dimensional inspections throughout the manufacturing process.
Ensure finished products meet customer specifications and internal quality standards.
Complete production records accurately.
Follow all quality procedures and manufacturing processes.
Health & Safety
Work safely at all times in line with company health and safety policies.
Wear the correct PPE for the role.
Maintain a clean, organised and safe work area.
Report equipment faults, safety hazards or production concerns promptly.

Essential Skills & Experience
Previous experience operating CNC equipment, robotic welding systems or automated machinery.
Strong understanding of welding processes, machine settings and engineering tolerances.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
Experience setting up and adjusting automated machinery.
Good mechanical and technical problem-solving skills.
High attention to detail with a focus on quality.
Sound understanding of manufacturing health and safety procedures.
Competent IT skills.
Desirable
Experience operating AWL or similar robotic welding equipment.
MIG welding experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
Previous experience within sprinkler systems, pipework or fire protection manufacturing.
Fabrication or pipefitting background.
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement techniques
